On the morning of August 7th three youth and two YCDC employees arrived at the Harding Heights Ranch. They were soon to set off on an hour long horseback trail ride through the forests of Upper Oasis. It was most definitely an exciting hour! Once we arrived we hopped on our horses and Irene Harding, our instructor and host, made sure our stirrups were the right height and our saddles were on straight. And then we set off towards the forest!
The first challenge
was getting the horses away from the grass and trees they love to munch on! Once we accomplished that we could finally begin to really ride. The terrain was a mixture of ups and downs with very few flat spots and lots of trees that were just the right height to smack riders in the face. Another lesson was the watch out for tight trees where it is easy to smack your knee caps if you aren't careful. We all clung to our horses for dear life while heading through the steeper sections back towards the ranch.
Happily, everyone made it back to the ranch in one peice and sporting smiles. It was a fun couple of hours for everyone with memories made that will be hard to forget. There was just enough time to snack on some muffins and watermelon before saying goodbye to the horses, Irene and Shauntelle, and the Harding Height's Ranch!

Thank-you for an awesome time Irene & Shauntelle!!
